Ingredients

  • 1⅛ cups warm milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 10 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Oil or shortening for frying
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • About 3 Tbsp milk or cream
  • Dash of salt

Instructions

  1. 1Warm milk to about 105°F. Stir in sugar and yeast. Let sit 5 minutes.
  2. 2Add eggs and melted butter.
  3. 3Slowly mix in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead/mix for about 5 minutes.
  4. 4Let dough rest 10 minutes, then transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. 5Roll dough out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thick. Cut donuts using a donut cutter.
  6. 6Place donuts on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise about 1 hour until puffy.
  7. 7Heat oil to 350–375°F. Fry donuts about 90 seconds per side until golden brown. Donut holes cook faster.
  8. 8Remove to paper towels briefly.
  9. 9For the glaze, whisk together melted butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, milk, and salt until smooth.
  10. 10Dip warm donuts into glaze and enjoy!
